Once told he was not good enough to play major college football, Schmitt was a walk-on star Fullback for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Schmitt played a key role in the West Virginia rushing attack that helped WVU win 3 New Year's Day bowl games in 3 years as a starter. While at WVU, Schmitt always gave 110%. He played football with the power and meanness found in a floating guard. He didn't blow guys up into the ground, rather he ground them up into dust. Sporting a mohawk haircut while smashing his head with his helmet and breaking ten facemasks in 3 years, Schmitt is truly what an 'old school' football player looks like.
